NOTE: This article is from an old blog Golden wrote on from 2017 to 2019. It was called Mama Wants an RV. The blog has since expired but the memories remain. Thanks for reading!

I’ve been publishing online for almost a year and I want to share what I enjoy most about blogging with you all. Blogging is one of those things in life that has kept me motivated through some pretty tough stuff. Whether I had a hard week caring for one of my kids, or we got some unexpected news from my husband’s job, blogging has been a tool for me to get out my thoughts on a matter and hopefully encourage others along the way.
I don’t want to confuse what I enjoy most about blogging with why I choose to blog. What I enjoy most about blogging has simply surfaced from my original goal to start a blog. What I have learned about blogging is also part of another article you might want to review.
And now, here is what I enjoy most about blogging.
Flexibility and Convenience
When I first investigated blogging I examined two platforms: WordPress and Wix. I read review after review and learned both companies provided a slew of options and customization. I was able to find more tutorials on how to use WordPress and I knew the platform had been around many years. While WordPress seemed well established, I was nervous because I had read a few reviews claiming that WordPress was difficult to use at times, with too many options.
I finally decided that although a WordPress blogging site might be harder to begin, I was up for the challenge.
I finally decided that although a WordPress blogging site might be harder to begin, I was up for the challenge. I like the fact that it is all database oriented. Everything is highly organized and easy to find in a search.
The convenient plug-ins and tutorials make using WordPress weekly much easier for me. I especially like the videos on Linda.com. I’m learning how to become a Junior WordPress Developer. I work on improving my site as I go through the thirty-seven hour learning path.
2020 Note: Today I use Wix as their platform has changed dramatically in the last few years. I love how easy it is to edit and send newsletters to readers.
It Keeps Me Accountable
As soon as I posted my first article, I felt a responsibility to regularly post for my readers. My first attempt came nine months ago when I worked hard to post twice a week. In my case, it was too much. I began again as a new year’s resolution and have been posting regularly every Saturday this year. I even went on vacation and scheduled a post so that I would not miss a week.
In fact, this post is here because I scheduled it. From time to time I have adoption trainings on the weekends. I get to attend the Empowered to Connect Conference while WordPress does the work behind the scenes. Like I said before: convenient.
The next three points about what I enjoy most about blogging are very important to me. I don’t think I would still be regularly blogging if it weren’t for the three facts below.
I don’t think I would still be regularly blogging if it weren’t for the three facts below.
Inspiring Others
I love sharing our stories and hearing how others get encouragement from our situation. Adoption has changed my like. I will never be the same and I know others who have fostered and adopted feel the same way. Adoption changes everything. It practically erased any former mindset I had about raising kids and gives me a fresh new perspective on how God wants kids raised.
I have been encouraged by countless mama bloggers who have shared real testimonies of faith and perseverance through the muck of life. I feel like it’s now my turn to carry the torch and keep cheering for parents who love their kids deeply and fight day after day to see heart’s transformed.
Personal Growth
Parenting kids from hard places requires intense training and practice, practice, practice! Successful blogging requires research and focus. It requires countless hours of prep and back-linking and re-editing pages. It’s no small task to have a successful blog, and that is a personal goal of mine. I would like to have a blog that is sought after for not only adoption encouragement and resources, but also for RV travel and for others who want to travel to all 50 states. That alone will be a whole new education for me.
Blogging has forced me to get out of my comfort zone. It’s made me rethink the messages I’m trying to get across to those who need to hear them. It’s shown me there is no room for perfection, just hard work and perseverance. I need to be sincere and not sugar coat things, yet compassionate and understanding that each family is in a different place.

I Get To Publish My Writing
Posting a blog article on the web is publishing. It’s not in a newspaper, magazine, or book, but it’s accessible to the public and they can choose whether or not they want to read it. And with so many ways to access the web today, blog publishing can be most effective in getting a message across.
I still dream of writing a book, or two dozen, and having them published someday. But even if I don’t, I know I’m a published author on MamaWantsAnRV.com!
There you have it. What I enjoy most about blogging in a nutshell. Do you have a blog? What do you enjoy most? Let me know in the comments below.
